Washington County Electoral Board

The Washington County Electoral Board is composed of three members appointed by a majority of the circuit judges of the 28th Judicial Circuit of which Washington County is part. Appointments are based on representation of the two political parties having the highest and next highest number of votes in the Commonwealth of Virginia for Governor at the last preceding gubernatorial election. Two electoral board members shall be of the political party that cast the highest number of votes for Governor at that election. The political party entitled to the appointment shall make and file recommendations with the circuit judges for the appointment. Electoral Board members serve three-year terms. The Electoral Board is responsible for the appointment of the General Registrar of Washington County and officers of elections. The Electoral Board shall ascertain from the returns the total votes in the County for each candidate and for and against each ballot question and complete the abstract of votes cast at elections.
